Editorial.

Welcome to this first edition of “Y BONT”!

The title was chosen as a symbol to link both Carrog and Llidiart y Parc and as a bi-lingual bridge. This free monthly newsheet is intended to provide a summary of news for both communities and information as to forthcoming events.

To the best of our knowledge this has never been attempted here before, and it’s production will hopefully keep us all better informed as to what is going on in our own community.

If you have any items or ideas you wish to be included in future editions (or if you want to help!), then please contact us directly. It is our intention to produce “Y BONT” in the first week of every month and items for inclusion must be submitted by the 22nd day of the preceding month.

Letters are welcomed but please keep them brief.

If we have missed out anything you feel should have been included please forgive us but make sure you let us know for the next issue!

Edited and published by Ian Lebbon, Colin Roberts and Paul Fisher.

Village Hall.

The Architects have been asked to meet with the contractors as a matter of urgency to ensure the heating system has been properly commissioned and to avoid the problems of last winter.

This is especially important in view of the increasing level of usage of the Village Hall. The committee have agreed to launch a major appeal this Autumn to ensure a regular income to pay for the Halls annual running costs.

Anyone can support this whether by covenant, sponsorship or subscription to the re-launched 100 Club. Thank you to Mrs. R.D. Jones for another successful coffee morning which raised £140 for the Village Hall.

Carrog School

The School welcomed 3 full time pupils: Abbie, Charlotte and Pagan and 6 new Nursery pupils: Barra, Harry, Bryn, Imogen, Julian and Sam.

At the end of term concert year six pupils: Richard, Laura, Sammy, Jenny, Tilly, Portia, Stewart, William, Mikey, Jonathan and Bryony, were presented with a dictionary each and congratulated on their excellent S.A.Ts results. We hope they have settled well in their new schools.

Junior children enjoyed a visit to Llangollen Pavillion to hear the “Mungenkyo Taiko Jpanese” drummers.

All the children took part in the annual Harvest Thanksgiving Service in Church. A collection made for “Macmillan Nurses” raised £50.

Twinning/Plouyé

For the past four years we have hosted folk dance groups from Brittany, competing at the Llangollen Eisteddfod. As a result of this nine local residents visited Plouyé in Brittany at the end of August to explore the possibility of and official Twinning arrangement.

The visit was a great success and an open meeting will be held in the near future to discuss the formation of an official twinning committee.

St Ffraid’s Church

It is good to be able to report in this first issue of “Y Bont” that the major part of the Church restoration has been completed. The Church is still somewhat short of the final figure to pay for the work but thank you to all those who contributed to the Gift Aid day. Well in excess of £1000 pounds was raised by the Village.

Many people came the service of Thanksgiving and re-dedication on the last day of September, to welcome the Bishop, the Right Reverend John Davies and to hear him preach.

All who attended the the service were delighted with the appearance of the interior adorned with flowers, fruit and vegetables, and lit throughout with candles and the new roof lights.
