Stranger Than Fiction

An article on the HTV news last week reported on the closure of village schools in Wales. The usual reason for closure is the declining number of pupils which once below a certain threshold, according to official policy, make the school unviable. Despite considerable protest and a long campaign the school was closed.

In this case the school and grounds were sold to a developer who built a housing estate thus bringing the number of children in the village back to a number where the school was viable.
