We are extremely pleased with the support that we have received for the first 3 editions of this paper and hope for your continuing support as a community throughout the coming year. Keep the contributions coming in!
Last monthh’s letter concerning the dangers of the A5 at Llidiart y Parc and the need for a speed limit has been the cause of considerable discussion. The Parc appears to be the only community bisected by the A5 after crossing the Welsh border which does NOT have any speed restrictions for the protection of its residents. It is also at the end of an extremely fast straight stretch of road which may well have been designed by Thomas Telford, but certainly not for the speeds that are now regularly achieved on it! Do any of our readers know how we can increase safety in this area? How can we introduce a speed restriction?
Remember for 2004 this paper needs your contribution - if you don’t tell, we cannot print!
If you have access to e-mail please send any articles etc. to train@astracg.com.

We all know the answer of course because we live in or near the Village but do visitors know? Whilst there are direction signs to the village there are no signs showing where Carrog begins and ends. This seems particularly strange given that other villages in the area, considerably smaller than Carrog, have such signs. Where ARE ours?

Last month the rams were champing at the bit desperate for their annual orgy to begin. Six weeks down the line, however, their enthusiasm seems to have waned somewhat and extra rations and ten months R& R is the order of the day.
The cows are now residing in their five star luxury shippen with me acting as “Head Chef”, room service and cleaning lady.
It seems an age now since summer when, between breakdowns (both human and mechanical), with a bit of luck and a lot of help from the lads in the village we once again managed to fill the hay shed.
Having moaned and groaned at them to stack the shed neatly and squarely, it seems a shame to undo their good work and carry the hay to the cows.
The biggest drawback of feeding the cows inside through the winter is the by-products. The more you put in at one end the more you get out at the other. Once again the muck fork, the wheel barrow and myself will become well aquainted. Roll on spring!

An open meeting was held at the Neuadd on 28th November to discuss the formation of an official twinning organisation. An invitation is to be sent to Plouyé in Brittany, inviting representatives to visit Carrog/Llidiart y Parc in 2004. Minutes of the meeting are available to anyone who is interested.

People are being duped by fake lottery scams operated by international fraudsters.
If you receive unsolicited mail, saying you have won an overseas lottery, treat such letters with caution.
People have received a letter, supposedly from a clairvoyant and including a “future”newspaper claiming they had won more than £12 million in the Millions A Gogo game. The letter, targeting older people, claims there will be a letter of congratulation following from a Prime Minister.
The information may seem genuine and plausible, the so-called ‘winnings’’ are often non-existent.
Payment of an up front administration fee to secure winnings is often followed by a request for a larger fee to cover tax liability before the cash is released.
Further excuses for payment to be held may include allegations the promoters are being investigated by the authorities.
While the ‘winner’ believes the ‘winnings’ are being held pending an inquiry, in reality the fraudster has moved on elsewhere to prey on more victims.

December
After three relatively quiet years, Influenza A is in the community earlier than normal. It is posing problems in North and Central Britain. The vaccine we have at the surgery contains strains that will offer protection against this virus. It is very important for everyone over the age of 65 to receive the vaccination, as well as adults and children over six months of age with the following health problems:
Chronic respiratory disease
Chronic heart disease
Chronic renal failure
Diabetes
Included are those with suppressed immune systems due to disease or treatment and people who have had their spleen removed. WE STILL HAVE A STOCK OF FLU VACCINE ring for an appointmentwith one of the practice nurses, tell us if you are housebound.
N.B. The vaccine does not contain active virus and can not give you the flu.

David and Judith Blair had another successful season at Station Camp Site. There was an increase in the number of tents this year, probably due to the excellent weather! Station Camp Site has a web site which is continually updated - www.stationcampsite.8k.com - and has photographs of local views.
If you have any ideas for local links or photographs please let Judith know. A plant sale was held at the Camp Site this year which raised £100 for the charity Diabetes UK

Join the campaign to get the 430 telephone exchange onto the best way to the internet - BROADBAND - we only need 78 more users to register for Broadband internet access and then we could all have unlimited access to the internet. Costs vary from £25.00 to £30.00 per month but if you use the Internet regularly this is likely to prove cheaper than your present Internet Service Provider. Access is 10x faster than ordinary modem connections with subsequent savings on telephone bills.
This month A5 Publications are running a campaign to bring Broadband to our local telephone exchange with an information leaflet. You can register your interest at www.btopenworld.com/votebroadband or if you are busy you can send your details using the form on the web site at http://glyndwr.deevalley.com and your vote will be registered for you with BT Broadband. For more information please email glyndwr@a5publications.com or phone 430667.
